Inspired by the Ballets Russes and its Greek heroes, this season offered toga-like draping, long and lean silhouettes, plenty of tunics and chalk-painted skin. While the collection was dark, Owens did introduce lighter shades including a rusty pink.

Comme des Garçons
According to designer Rei Kawakubo this sesaon’s Comme des Garcons collection was anti-war-inspired “but in a quiet way.” It stands to reason that open knits, drop crotch pants and combat boots with supersized curved toes (think the XXXXL version of Santa’s little helpers) aren’t exactly quiet, but then again, what would a Kawakubo show be without over-the-top drama.

Alber Elbaz made a big push for man bags this season showing over-the-shoulder and crossbody versions to complement his loosely tailored collection of dressy sportswear and daywear. Pops of ivory aside, the collection stuck with a dark palette with hints of shine.

Givenchy
The two main points to take away from Givenchy this season is that Riccardo Tisci is hoping for a do-rag comeback and that unlike the relaxed silhouettes that have pervaded the men’s shows, Givenchy’s collection was considerably more fitted and sharp with plenty of graphic and utilitarian details.

Louis Vuitton
Kim Jones pointed to India for the inspiration behind this season’s lineup at Louis Vuitton, but it was very subtle. For the most part, the collection was a safari-esque mix of khaki-colored shades, long and lean suits, belted trenches and zigzag print tops. Many of the looks had a feminine feel, particularly those that emphasized the waist and the 70s-style two-piece looks.

Stripe and navy heavy, Dior Homme’s Kris Van Assche gave classic suiting a modern twist by combining summery Breton stripes with traditional, tailored silhouettes. Yellow outerwear continued the naval theme, while the show closed out with a series of crayon swivel prints.

Kenzo
Paris inspired designers Carol Lim and Humberto Leon in a very obvious way this season for their Kenzo collection– from the Eiffel Tower printed on top of polka dotted suiting to the famous Les Miserables face of Cosette emblazoned on a top, hints were everywhere. The Statue of Liberty also made an appearance in the pastel-hued collection that was also heavy on denim.

Haider Ackermann
There was a Victor Hugo/theatrical quality to the heavily layered and rusty-hued collection Haider Ackermann showed this season. Various fabric finishes, mixed prints and various colors were styled for a slightly disheveled look that emphasized the loungewear appeal of many of the collection’s pieces.

Inspired by the wardrobe of dancers, this season’s collection included tees and button downs with deep necklines, slim Bermuda pants, loose trenches, tights, fluidly draped silhouettes and crisscross ballet-like shoes. Harness-like belting reoccurred throughout the collection.

Always the epitome of sophistication, the Hermes khaki and orange-infused lineup was a relaxed mix of beautifully tailored sportswear-inspired pieces. Prints were mixed in with monochrome separates for an all-appealing collection of impeccably cut separates.

Valentino
Inspired by “outsiders and freethinkers,” there were plenty of bold, quirky prints to go along with the oversized and linear-cut monochrome separates that were shown this season at Valentino. Many of the looks, particularly those that were print on print and paired with slip-on shoes, took on a pajama quality with their loose tailoring. Leather man bags in various shapes and sizes along with classic polos and sweaters rounded out the collection.

Browne went futuristic for his collection this season, which came complete with endless prints, boldly angled shoulders, masked models, glow in the dark separates and pieces with movable panels meant to mimic the human anatomy.

The 70s were alive and well in the rocker/music festival-inspired Saint Laurent collection. Fur vests, belted slim trousers, long and loose layers, ponchos and capes, embellished jean, suede and leather jackets and gaucho hats all made it down the runway in droves.
