A couple of weeks ago, Bella Hadid and her good friend Riccardo Tisci (formerly of Givenchy) feigned kissing in an Instagram post whose sole purpose seemed to be to provoke conversation (mission accomplished). Today, Bella and Riccardo are back at it with the suggestive, Serge-and-Charlotte-Gainsbourg-reminiscent poses, this time for a more discernible cause.
In a promo for Tisci and Nike’s soon-to-be released NikeLab Dunk Lux Chukka x RT, the sportswear spokesmodel sits atop “Riccy’s” lap wearing a workout bra emblazoned with that iconic swoosh. And that’s all, save for a pair of the sneakers of the hour in their black and white colorway. (They’ll also be in available in red and white.) Tisci, clad in his usual head-to-ankle black, keeps the snap SFW by encircling-slash-shielding Bella’s bikini area with his arms.
This is far from Tisci’s first NikeLab collab. 2014 saw Tisci’s “Just Do It” debut, with the highly coveted, color-banded Nike + R.T. Air Force 1 Lo, Mid and Hi. In 2016, Tisci returned with the NikeLab Dunk Lux High x RT, two training shoes, the Free Train Force Flyknit x RT and the Transform Flyknit x RT, as well as a Chelsea boot, dubbed the Air Zoom Legend x RT. During that span, he also produced several clothing lines for the label, the most recent of which featured a kaleidoscopic floral print.
Like its predecessors, the NikeLab Dunk Lux Chukka x RT was inspired by the retro 80s basketball look. Its chukka silhouette borrows from skate culture, a current street style obsession. Unlike classic Dunks, Tisci’s Chukka features no toe perforations. For added drama, the foxing and eyestay are enlarged. And then, of course, there’s the custom RT logo and Nike swoosh debossed on the heel.
“I think the Dunk has something that’s very special. It’s grounded in sport as well as in the street style culture,” said Tisci. “For younger generations it can fit as many different styles tribes as you can imagine. I think it’s one of the most iconic shoes that Nike has ever created.” Chukka sneakers are tricky beasts — they’re chunky and ankle-swallowing, especially in this iteration. While we’re sure Bella will come through with some helpful RL styling tips, in the meantime we’d recommend cuffed vintage mom jeans as legwear.
The NikeLab Dunk Lux Chukka x RT hits NikeLab at Bergdorf Goodman, NikeLab 21M, Dover Street Market New York, Kith BK and Concepts NYC on February 10. Non-New Yorkers can get them February 23 at NikeLab retailers worldwide and the brand’s e-commerce site.
