Another month, another series of glossy covers. Since it’s March, most magazines are promoting their spring fashion issues with mixed results.
Who can we expect to see down at the newsstands?
While there wasn’t much in the way of diversity on the March 2020 covers, there were some unexpected cover stars. Like Jane Fonda (eye creases and all), a partially camouflaged Kylie Jenner and Billie Eilish, who was honored with four fantastic Vogue covers. Plenty of model covers dropped this month, though many were surprisingly underwhelming. And Emily Blunt landed multiple covers, but not all of them were well received by our forum members.
Spring has officially sprung.
When it came to fashion, a couple of magazines appear to support skipping spring and heading straight to summer. Other March 2020 covers favor more spring-friendly wardrobes, including season-appropriate coats and a fair share of florals. (It is springtime in the magazine world, after all.) There were even a few red carpet-worthy gowns. And one title dressed both its subjects in the exact same outfit for two different covers.
On the beauty front, red lips were practically a requirement. Vogue Japan opted to paint all six of its models’ pouts a striking ruby shade. Hell, ELLE Russia only featured a pair of perfectly stained and immediately identifiable crimson lips and the gap teeth that go with them.
Curious to see which publications impressed and which ones left us shaking our heads? Check out the slideshow above for a look at the best and worst March 2020 covers.
All the March 2020 Magazine Covers We Loved and Hated

No covers made more waves this month than the four Vogue ones starring Billie Eilish. It was pretty impressive how beautiful they all turned out.
-
InStyle
Even though the styling seems more suited for summer than spring, beauty-wise Kerry Washington's curls are absolutely gorgeous.
-
Harper's Bazaar
This cheesy shot could easily be mistaken for an ad for Kylie Jenner perfume.
-
ELLE
The headline really ruins the cover.
-
Vogue UK
This Irina Shayk shot is the perfect combination of modern and retro.
-
Marie Claire
For the March issue, Emily Blunt was shot for three different covers by three different young female photographers. It's a wonderful concept, but some of the covers are underwhelming.

WSJ. Magazine
An upbeat, vibrant shot of Adut Akech.
-

We're all for seeing Jennifer Aniston out of her comfort zone on a magazine cover.
-
Vogue Japan
It's hard to believe that a cover featuring Adriana Lima, Candice Swanepoel, Joan Smalls, Edita Vilkeviciute, Doutzen Kroes and Sui He could disappoint, but multiple model covers aren't always a good thing.
-
Tatler
A truly timeless shot of Natalia Vodianova.
-
Harper's Bazaar UK
For such an expressive actress, Emily Blunt looks completely expressionless.
-
Vogue Spain
Hailey Bieber delivers her best cover yet.
-
Vogue Greece
At least it’s not your standard, aka boring, Victoria Beckham cover.
-
ELLE Russia
It's always an odd choice when there's no fashion on the cover of a fashion magazine, but to Vanessa Paradis' credit, we all knew whose mouth this was without reading the credits.
-
Vogue Germany
While it's wonderful to see Adwoa Aboah bring some diversity to newsstands this month, it looks like she could have used some caffeine to wake her up for the shoot.
-
ELLE Canada
Kudos to ELLE Canada for not only featuring the ageless Jane Fonda, but for not Photoshopping out every last crease.
-
Vanity Fair
While we're happy to see Ana de Armas land such a high-profile cover, the shot leaves a lot to be desired.
-
ELLE Poland
Even Daga Ziober can't make those horrendous shoes work.
-
ELLE Australia
For a cover headline declaring "new wave," Phoebe Tonkin's winged eye look sure feels dated.
