The Fall 2020 Haute Couture collections were definitely different. Thanks to the ongoing pandemic, designers had to get creative when it came to not only constructing their haute couture masterpieces, but how to flaunt them sans runway. And not all designers thought alike.
Iris van Herpen only offered up one, albeit stunning, dress. Schiaparelli gave us detailed sketches with some even including matching canine companions. Both Chanel and Alexandre Vauthier provided lookbooks; the former went for a rock ’n’ roll vibe, the latter took a more glamour at home approach. Ralph & Russo even created its very own avatar to model its collection. Plus, there were countless accompanying videos.
Some fashion houses fared better than others. We’re not sure whether Maria Grazia Chiuri simply stepped it up this season or the clothes just looked better on dress forms, but Christian Dior’s Fall 2020 Haute Couture designs were some of our favorites. Balmain put on a live presentation via TikTok that was fraught with technical difficulties. Although, we love the fact that Olivier Rousteing pulled from the iconic brand’s archives for some of the looks.
