Forum Members Review the ‘Pretentious’ 53rd Balenciaga Fall 2024 Haute Couture Collection

Day three of Haute Couture Paris Fashion Week and it was Demna over at Balenciaga’s Salons de Couture on 10 Avenue George V who commenced the on-going fashion festivities earlier today. A meditative soundtrack eased the minds of his guests (including everyone from brand ambassador Nicole Kidman to Alexis Stone as Miranda Priestley), before being bombarded with his vision for upcycled couture. Models took to the halls of Balenciaga’s legendary couture salon sporting butterfly masks and t-shirt hats. Demna (who has served as Balenciaga creative director since 2015) focused on key pillars of Cristobal Balenciaga’s design codes for the Fall 2024 season, including cocoon shapes and eccentric headwear for each of the 39 looks. The finale piece, a black nylon dress, was crafted from 47 meters of fabric and existed only for the duration of the show.

“I can’t believe this bullsh*t.” [Mutterlain]

“This felt like junkies walking into a rehabilitation center.” [youthinasia]

“Everything from soundtrack to the clothes and ideas just screams banal, disconnected, pretentious and lazy.” [PDFSD]

“I feel like Demna is purposefully trolling critics who say he is boring by using that soundtrack. I tried really hard to not fall asleep especially coupled with those first few looks. Demna’s couture is getting worse, and the repetition of the references and very very very cheap-looking menswear pieces.” [Mody]

“I can drap 47-meter fabric and make it still wearable. What is this nonsense mess.” [TaylorBinque]

“The final look is a complete joke for what it is.” [Ihhbl]

“I saw the first look, and I closed the live stream.” [THD96]

“This is a total trash and this is not even funny.” [HelgaZ]

“KILL IT WITH FIRE!” [Kimihiro]
