Forum Members Review the Alexander McQueen Resort 2025 Collection From Seán McGirr

Seán McGirr has been installed as the creative force behind Alexander McQueen for a whole 10 months. The powers that be at Kering appointed the Dublin-born designer creative director of the label in October 2023, and presented his highly-anticipated womenswear debut during the Fall 2024 season of Paris Fashion Week. Earlier this month, the accompanying campaign for McGirr’s inaugural collection dropped, with photographer Glen Luchford taking to a handful of locations across East London. The Alexander McQueen Resort 2025 collection is now here for us to deliberate over, boasting exaggerated proportions, razor-sharp tailoring and crystal finishes across a total of 31 looks. Flashes of Diego Velázquez’s portrait of Pope Innocent X is scattered throughout the lineup, across shirts and dresses. A shimmering gold number closes out McGirr’s sophomore McQueen offering.

“Bottega Veneta meets Topshop version of Mcqueen.” [avonlea002]

“I don’t mind it. It is less beautiful but less stuffy than Burton’s work.” [Alquimista]

“It’s very random. It has a little bit of every brand, even a little bit or Burton also (which is the worst part imo). I guess everybody will hate it because McQueen is sacred for many, but it’s not worse than your average show in 2024. Still bad, but average bad. I think McQueen should just close. His aesthetic is not relevant in 2024. It’s impossible to make something decent out of this brand that doesn’t look gimmicky and to bring it to the future.” [Creative]

“I also think maybe it’s time to put the McQueen to rest – it seems to me to be impossible to somehow carry on with that brand which is so tightly closed to founder’s tragic life. I don’t think McGirr will survive winter guys…” [Olaffo]

“I’ve seen more interesting stuff from the most random brand of Miami Fashion Week!” [helmutnotdead]

“This is ridiculous… verging on the hilarious. I actually laughed at the oversized T-shirt look.” [Lola701]

“Horrible, horrible, HORRIBLE! This is a horrible attempt at a collection, for ANY brand.” [VogueDisciple93]
