There is a lot of buzz surrounding actress Emma Stone these days. Known for her red hair and husky voice, the Easy A star is being hailed as the next Lindsay Lohan, without the trips to rehab and bad career choices. The newly blonde Stone will star as Gwen Stacy in the new Spiderman film with Andrew Garfield. While she’s still fairly new to the red carpet scene, having caught Hollywood’s attention with 2007’s Superbad, Stone has a style that is understated, youthful, and fun.
Award season is upon us, and Stone has upped the ante this year, arriving in simple but fun dresses, that are eye catching without being over the top. She picked up the well-deserved Best Comedy Award at the 2010 Critic’s Choice Awards while channeling old Hollywood glamour in a sparkling Balenciaga mesh halter dress. While she didn’t end up nabbing a Golden Globe, and told reporters she was “super bored” by the show, she showed up dressed to impress. The starlet, once again, chose a very simple but elegant orange backless gown by Calvin Klein.
At less formal events, she’s prone to wearing cute mini dresses like the Roksanda Ilicinic dress that makes great use of draping and shape at Trevor Live back in November; it’s where she first premiered her new blonde locks. Her character in Easy A decided to make an over-the-top fashion statement by sewing a red letter “A” to her Fredrick’s of Hollywood corsets (not a good look for high school), but Stone’s own style is far more subtle. While promoting the film in Germany, she wore a look that proves keeping it simple can work for almost any occasion. A grey leather jacket by Joie, paired with a tank by L’Agence, and a Sachin + Babi skirt, could take her from press events to late-night after parties.
While she doesn’t have the same party girl reputation as Lindsay Lohan – though she did a great parody of the actress when she hosted SNL last fall – Stone showed off her wilder side in a skin-tight leather mini-dress by Pucci at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards in September (above, right). Simple but sexy seems to be Stone’s motto when it comes to fashion, so either she has great style, or someone fantastic is styling her. She plays by the rules, focusing on one feature, and never lets her clothes overwhelm her. She arrived to tape the The Late Show with David Letterman in October in skinny jeans dressed up with Brian Atwood pumps and a very feminine Doo.Ri blazer (above, left).
On or off the red carpet, Emma Stone keeps it nice and simple, and Hollywood is taking note of it!
