Kate Middleton exceeded expectations in a beautiful, intricately crafted Alexander McQueen dress, but what about the other guests? With a mix of fashionable A-listers like Victoria Beckham, royals, and the likes of Sir Elton John in attendance, there was plenty of fashion eye candy.
Victoria Beckham covered up her barely visible baby bump with a navy, loose-fitting Victoria Beckham dress and clutch, which was complemented by a navy Phillip Treacy hat and six-inch Christian Louboutin shoes (clearly she does not suffer from pregnancy-induced swollen feet), while her husband, David Beckham, was dressed in Ralph Lauren.
The Beckhams looked predictably flawless, but unfortunately Sir Elton John did not fair so well with a jumble of mismatched separates. The legendary singer wore a purple tie, a yellow vest, gray trousers, and a coattail. In his defense, at least he stayed traditional while staying true to his affinity for flare.
The day’s major flop, however, belonged to Princess Eugenie who opted for a colorful, bow-accented Vivienne Westwood dress. Her sister, Beatrice, faired better with a pale Valentino dress and coat, though it was somewhat surprising that she did not wear a British designer. Both sisters donned memorably over-the-top hats (above left).
One of the festivities biggest disappointments, however, was Joss Stone (right) who went for a simple pink shift and a matching cropped jacket paired with a wide-brim hat. Sure, there was nothing offensive, but for such a bohemian singer (she did leave in her nose ring), it would have been nice to see something a bit more out-of-the-box.
