Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s Spectacular Frames

That enterprising dynamic duo of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are at it again. The sisters will expand the Elizabeth and James brand even further by offering a line of optical frames. The collection will be released in June with 13 styles carrying the monikers of streets in New York City and Los Angeles. Stores like Dan Deutsch Optical Outlook and Devonshire Optical will carry the eyewear with prices ranging from $155 to $265. Select details from the brand’s Spring 2011 collection also will be represented in the frames.

The ability of the frames to work off the Spring collection was evident in the lookbook images. Rounder, extremely dark glasses like the Folsom have an intellectual feel that suits the Gemma Blazer. While the cat-eye take of the Chrystie seems poised to coordinate with numerous pieces.

There’s also the oversized, thicker Centinela eyeglasses, which are great for stealing the focus from any outfit. For anyone not feeling the bold frame trend, the wiry Delaney alternative plays directly against type.

The Olsens aren’t the only stars producing chic eyewear. Singer Lisa Loeb was known for two things back in the 90s, her catchy song “Stay” and cat-eye glasses. Now Lisa has her own line of eyeglasses called Lisa Loeb Eyewear. The Hello Lisa is similar to her iconic frames and she offers additional styles like the more rectangular Everyday. Celebs aren’t just designing eyeglasses, but many favor wearing frames over contacts or even just as a statement accessory. Anne Hathaway was framed last month at the Los Angeles premiere of the animated flick, Rio.

Many stars have been spotted sporting Ray-Ban eyeglasses. Star Trek’s Chris Pine opted for this fresh take on the Wayfarer while catching a flight out of LAX to Australia back in April 2009. Britney Spears also was caught in December 2009 displaying the popular style. Tattoo artist Kat Von D was seen in a more retro version last year and even David Arquette slipped on a pair in February.

Just like Ray-Bans, Prada, Burberry, and Kate Spade have all ventured into crafting optical options, proving glasses really can be fashion forward.
