Stars of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 on the Red Carpet

For those of us who have been with the Harry Potter series since there was still Quidditch in the movies and the possibility of Hermione with a pixie cut seemed unimaginable, this week’s premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is as bittersweet as it is exciting. Stretch out the experience with our coverage of the red carpet at both the premiere in London and US—the fashion is sure to be enchanting.

Who could have guessed that Emma Watson’s red carpet allure would surpass even that of “the boy who lived”? The starlet went out with a bang at the UK premiere in a princess-worthy Oscar de la Renta sky blue ball gown with a tulle skirt and beaded bodice. Her slicked ‘do suggested that she might be growing out that pixie after all. At the NYC premiere, she wowed in a bronze Bottega Veneta gown with a pleated taffeta skirt and corset top. Her Cleopatra-inspired eye makeup finished off the edgy look.

French fashion darling Clemence Poesy, who plays Fleur Delacour in the films, is the only fellow Harry Potter star who gave Watson some red carpet competition in a ruffled Nina Ricci chiffon dress and platform wedges by the same designer. Bonnie Wright, who plays Harry’s love interest Ginny Weasley, showed that she’s all grown up in a Victorian-inspired peach Miu Miu dress, champagne clutch, and dangling gold earrings.

Evanna Lynch’s fashion is as usually quirky as her character, Luna Lovegood, but the cream lace minidress she wore to the London premiere was relatively tame. Her fluffy black bag and chunky heels did add a welcome whimsical touch, but in terms of quirk she was upstaged by Helena Bonham Carter, of course. The actress, who plays evil witch Bellatrix LeStrange, wore an onyx satin dress that draped beautifully on her figure, and then in true HBC style, topped it off with a frilly pink fascinator.

JK Rowling presided over the proceedings like the creator of the Harry Potter universe that she is, dressing up in a rose-covered Oscar de la Renta gown. Unfortunately upstaged in terms of fashion by all of their female costars, dynamic duo Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint looked dapper at the premiere in London, Radcliffe in a three-piece Simon Spurr suit and Grint suiting up in a jacket with a snakeskin pattern.
