Trend #1: Pink Sparkles

Miss: The pale pink sparkly gown that Carly Rae Jepsen wore to the AMAs this week actually wasn’t such a bad look for the Call Me Maybe singer. Compared to her usual bubblegum-precious style, her Gomez-Gracia gown took a turn toward stylish. The halter shape and heavy-handed embellishment read a bit like a prom dress, though, and the top didn’t look like it fit her perfectly. Her hair is still just a shade too dark—it looks like lighter roots might be coming in—but overall, I see this as an improvement, so for now there’s no need to say, “Call a Stylist, Maybe.”
Hit: At the same event, Ginnifer Goodwin looked pretty in pink, wearing an Oscar de la Renta Resort 2013 dress with cap sleeves, a boat-neck collar and light pink bands accenting silver embellishment. She effortlessly accesorized the look with a mirrored clutch and strappy silver Jimmy Choo sandals almost identical to the ones worn on the runway. Her signature pixie and pale pink lips gave the dress a mod feel.
Trend #2: Short Black Trench Coats

Close call: Wearing a trench coat with nothing underneath is a loaded look, and while there are probably many people out there who wish that Jennifer Lawrence and Penelope Cruz were flashers, it still takes guts to pull this look off. At a screening of Silver Linings Playbook, Lawrence wore a satin Christian Dior jacket from the Spring 2013 runway and wore it as a dress. Though the skirt is dangerously short to compete with the plunging neckline, a gold belt cinches the waist nicely to offset the A-line skirt and overall the look is polished. Cruz took the black trench coat look from frumpy to foxy at the Venuto al Mondo photocall in Rome. The actress looked edgy in her black leather Versace trench, belted at the waist and worn like a dress with black platform pumps. Her bedroom hair and minimal accessories made the look. I prefer Lawrence’s statuesque looks and Cruz doing her old Hollywood glamour thing, but this edgy look works for both of them—just who do you think works it better?
Trend #3: White Lace Peplum Dress

Miss: Selena Gomez looked grown up at the Glamour Women of the Year Awards—a little too grown up. While the plunging sheer neckline of her Giambattista Valli dress was more interesting than the oversized and, at this point, overdone floral lace on Fisher’s frock, the undefined waist on her peplum skirt, her boring pumps and helmet hair aged the young star—who, as newly single, wouldn’t be criticized for showing off her youth a bit more.
Hit: At the Rise of the Guardians premiere, actress Isla Fisher donned a very similar Dolce & Gabbana dress, but the key difference was in the way Fisher’s gold belted waist flattered better. Her gold shoe was an unexpected note with the prim dress, but, coordinated with the gold clutch, made this white lace look more appealing for winter. If only her side-swept bangs could’ve been a bit more side-swept.
