Kate Bosworth wore the best cut-out look I’ve seen all winter to the Audi Golden Globe Kick-Off Cocktail Party. Her black Emilio Pucci dress has a cut-out under the bust and at the shoulders with a sheer halter yoke and sleeves. She expertly styled the look with smoky makeup and black accessories. Metallics are as big of a trend as cut-outs this season, and Demi Lovato worked both at the season finale of X Factor. Her two-tone Topshop dress had all-over seams and cut-outs at the waist. Hoop earrings and platform pumps were the only accessories this look needed. Kerry Washington loves cut-outs—she wore a mixed-pattern dress by Peter Pilotto with a contrasting ruffle at a photocall for Django Unchained in Rome. I love that this dress, which already has a lot going on, has just one tiny peekaboo above the navel to give it a little sex appeal.

The actress wore another cut-out look to the Italian premiere of the film. Her white ankle-length Prada dress and cream pumps would’ve been dowdy without the open back and ring bringing them together in the center. I love that she added a pop of color with a green clutch but kept her makeup seasonally appropriate with merlot lips. Alessandra Ambrosio did the cut-out trend at the GQ Men of the Year party, wearing a long-sleeved Sally LaPointe sheathe with open panels and a black leather belt drawing attention to the waist. Her smoky eyes and sleek locks finished this edgy look. Brandy is back, and getting a lot of attention for pushing the envelope with her red carpet style. She wore an asymmetrical Esteban Cortazar dress to the VH1 Divas event in L.A. The small slash at the side showed just enough skin and her futuristic ankle cuff sandals emphasized the avant-garde look of the dress.
