Chrissy Teigen is known to perform great feats of Twitter-enabled altruism. To wit: she once literally gave a fan the dress off her back. Still, Teigen’s latest act of kindness may be her most substantive yet.
A few weeks back, one of Teigen’s fans, a social media skin care guru by the name of Mercedes Edney, started a crowd-funding campaign to raise money for her esthetician school costs, including tuition, books and an enrollment fee. As of April 7, Edney had raised $390 of the $5,995 she needed. Then came a PayPal alert, care of Chrissy Teigen. “I’ve seen this be your passion for such a long time now. So excited to see you fulfill your dream!” read the message. Attached was a credit for $5,605.
On Saturday, Edney, now a proud student at the Academy Of Nail Technology and Esthetics in North Carolina, Instagrammed the receipt for her first tuition payment. “I haven’t been this happy in a very long time. Thank you Chrissy and thank you to everyone else who voted or [retweeted] my link or have supported me this entire time. It means more to me than you’ll ever know.”
Teigen’s response? “I’m really excited for you to live out your passion.”
