Chrissy Metz Shuts Down Critics of Her Latex MTV Awards Dress

Chrissy Metz, one-third of This Is Us’ beloved (present day) Big Three, is not here for internet fat shamers who don’t think anyone over a size eight should be allowed to wear latex on camera. The actress, who was recently dubbed “Hollywood’s New Pin Up Girl” by Harper’s Bazaar, attended last night’s MTV TV and Movie Awards in a custom Jane Doe Latex empire-waist dress. Metz wore the ruffle-sleeved burgundy frock to present Best Duo award alongside co-star (and fictional father of the year) Milo Ventimiglia. As they are wont to do, the internet trolls descended. Metz, a beacon of body-positivity, let the negative, needless comments roll right off her back, tweeting the following response:

#Queen. When it comes to advocating for body-positivity and self-love, Metz is right up there with national treasures Ashley Graham, Kesha and Amy Schumer. In her aforementioned Harper’s Bazaar feature, Metz made it abundantly clear she has no time for body-shamers, nor fashion critics. “I want to wear something because I love it, not because it follows the rules,” Metz said of her style. She and stylist Jordan Grossman are known for their bold, glamorous fashion choices. “I ever end up on the worst-dressed list, it’s not going to make me fall apart,” Metz stated. “I want to look great and feel good and be comfortable, but at the same time, none of this [as in red carpet appearances and photo shoots] really matters. This is the fun stuff.” And with that, Metz rolled four important life lessons into one: love yourself, focus on what really matters, brush off the haters and keep fashion fun.
