“The little black dress is far more than a wardrobe staple: it’s the perfect fashion classic” – Sarah Harris, Vogue (UK) fashion features writer.
This season is a time to rethink the classics, and adapt them into modern society. The timeless piece – the little black dress – has been rethought and re-mastered to create stunning fashion. From sculptural tailoring at Balenciaga, Prada offering lace and ruffle finishes, and a one-shoulder dress from Lanvin. Lace gives black a sophisticated edge while maxi lengths and high necks mean the soft Goth makes a resurgence in fashion.

At Paris Fashion Week, designer heavyweights – Karl Lagerfeld & Alexander McQueen to name a few – dazzled fashionista’s worldwide with the striking use of black in their collections.

And as per usual, each designer had its unique take on the trend, making it all the more interesting. Karl Lagerfeld took on a punk attitude with the trend, complemented well by Givency’s “Goth look”.
Grunge and beauty harmonised in Alexander McQueen & Lanvin’s collections. Without a doubt, black was the stand out colour at Paris Fashion Week.

So whether you are splurging on a perfectly tailored skirt suit, or one of Alber Elbaz’s much coveted black cocktail dresses that you will wear for years to come, nothing will say Autumn/Winter 2008 better than something expensive and timeless in black.
