Dressing for a party at home takes a certain amount of finesse: I want to look festive and dressed up, yet I also need to be comfortable while attending to all my hostessing duties. Comfortable shoes are a must since I rarely have a moment to sit down (though I won’t go so far as to forego heels) and I can’t dress too warmly since the kitchen can get hot and crowded. This year, I’m opting for a gorgeous Diane von Furstenberg sheer blouse with a gold foil leaf print (there’s that metallic!) and super comfortable faux leather pants from Two by Vince Camuto. Details are simple: a bold gold cuff from Marc by Marc Jacobs and not-too-dramatic drop earrings. As for shoes, I’ll start the night with a fairly manageable 3 1/2 inch heeled bootie, with the option to change into flats later in the night if necessary, though they’re pretty comfortable.
As for makeup, I tend to play up my eyes when dressing up, leaving the rest of my face and lip fairly natural. I can’t be bothered with re-applying lipstick throughout the night and eyes are low maintenance, even at their most dramatic. I like to use a bit of shimmer on my lids at holiday time and lots of mascara. An eye shadow palette, like the ULTA Wink Eye Shadow Palette, offers many options for creating a variety of looks for all of my holiday events.
