My Comfort Zone — Ellen Freeman

Besides writing for theFashionSpot, I’m a yoga practitioner and teacher—so comfort is something I take as seriously as style. When it comes to underwear, I’m always searching for products that make me feel as good as they look, which isn’t always an easy task. Though underwear may not be as visible an accessory as a statement pair of sunglasses or a bold head-wrap, for me, the right pair of panties is as essential to my outfit as what I wear on the outside. That’s because whether I’m out and about or it’s time to relax in a yoga class, the last thing I want to be distracted by is an annoying pair of panties that dig—or give me those no-no lines during downward dog. That’s why the super-softness and smooth shape of the Fruit of the Loom hi-cut panties appeals to me. In 100% cotton, they’re seriously comfy, which means that nothing comes between me and my zen (or at least not my underwear). The elastic on the leg openings is covered with the same silky fabric, so the panties don’t pinch or leave lines. I also love that the movement-friendly, plush-lined waistband is made with the same ravel-free technology as tough outdoor gear, so it can stand up to even my most vigorous vinyasas.

With my admittedly bohemian bent, I’m really into the slouchy, oversized silhouettes I’ve been seeing everywhere this season. Think easy-to-wear pieces that leave lots of room for comfort but skim the body in the right places, like voluminous high-waist trousers and cropped boxy blouses. I can’t imagine putting on such a relaxed ensemble over a pair of itchy, clingy underwear, which is why Fruit of the Loom’s hi-cut panties are an obvious match for these summery styles. I sometimes find that when it comes to underwear, comfortable can translate to boring. Luckily, Fruit of the Loom has reinvented its cotton panties in all of the fits I love, in tons of bright colors. For an instant mood lifter, I love the yellow (not to mention the fact that it matches my current favorite manicure color). I’d wear the hi-cut panties with a pair of loose joggers, a pretty kimono-sleeved top and some chunky 90s-inspired sandals (you can guess that I’m not much of a heels girl). Then I’d layer on accessories like a dynamic pendant and a geometric print, turban-style headband for a laid-back look that can take me from the street to the studio.
