Fashion isn’t cheap. If you want the newest bags, shoes and coats of the season, you may have to decide between your rent and your wardrobe. Sure, you can buy a discounted version of last season’s wares courtesy of sample sales. But wouldn’t it be fabulous to not only buy full price, but pre-order? We can dream.
But beyond that $2,000 bag and $1,200 pair of shoes are items that only a select few can buy. These are the dresses, jackets, coats and bags that can cost up to half (or more) of your (and our) year’s salary. Call us aspirational, but we couldn’t help rounding them up. (And we’re not alone — there’s an entire thread in our forums dedicated to these ultra premium goods.) Consider this the one percent of fashion items. The next time you want to look like a million bucks, you’ll know where to look.
Click ahead, but you may want to put your credit card away — unless it happens to be a black Amex. Now then, we’re off to play the lotto if you need us.
Expensive Fall Items
Fendi Leather Jacket, $11,500
Surprisingly, Barneys was on the more reasonable end with most of its RTW. Most. This python leather jacket from Fendi was one of the pricier items. Would we say no to this? Depends who's paying.
Multicolored Python Patchwork Collarless Jacket, $11,500; Barneys.com .
Zagliani Tote, $27,000
By now we all know how much an alligator bag from The Row will set you back (this season, $34,000 ). But when a brand that's not yet a fashion household name offers up a pricey purse in an exotic skin, is it too much?
Gatsby Tote, $27,000; Barneys.com .
Roberto Cavalli Dress and Shawl, $15,650
Anything with fur is going to set you back. That's a given. We kind of hope this gorgeous dress by Cavalli comes in a non-fur version, so it's a bit more attainable. We're just going to stare at it for a while, pardon us.
Drop-Waist Fur-Skirted Dress with Beading, $13,235, Fox Fur Shawl with Lion Chain, $2,415; both at Bergdorfgoodman.com .
Givenchy Dress, $11,900
Are you really into butterflies? No, but seriously, do you have them tattooed on both your ankles and have wings done on your back? And you have a spare 12 grand in the bank? Then this is the dress for you! And bonus, you won't even need jewelry! Win-win!
Long-Sleeve Butterfly-Print Silk Dress, $11,900; Bergdorfgoodman.com .
Dolce & Gabbana Coat, $31,800
You may think this is an impractical coat, but you've forgotten two very important words; polar vortex. In the dead of winter, when the wind chill is negative 40, you're going to wish you'd spent most of your salary on this. It's so very Mary Sibley .
Alpaca and Fox Fur Coat, $31,800; Luisaviaroma.com .
Yohji Yamamoto Coat, $12,457
There are nights when we go to bed wishing we could be the kind of people cool enough to rock Yohji . Is such coolness worth shelling out almost $12,500? Possibly, but we'll never know.
Oversize Print Silk Crepe de Chine Coat, $12,457; Luisaviaroma.com .
Oscar de la Renta Gown, $10,590
Remember what your mom used to tell you: You get what you pay for. And you're paying for ODLR . Of course this is a big ticket item. We're surprised it's not more. Take everything, we'll pay!
Embellished Silk-Chiffon Smocked Gown, $10,590; Modaoperandi.com .
Mary Katrantzou Dress, $17,230
Mary Katrantzou 's pieces are intricately made. Usually embroidered — this one is macramed and embellished — so there's a quality of workmanship involved. Plus, let's face it, you're wearing a dress made of road signs. You're going to stand out in this number. If you're going to pay close to 20 grand, you'd better not run into your fashion twin.
Dixicult Embellished Macramé Lace Mini Dress, $17,230; Net-a-porter.com .
Valentino, $16,900
Oh, Valentino . Winning our hearts and breaking them at the same time. Why must thou be so expensive? This gown had better be worn to a lovely event just so we can see someone flaunting that embroidery.
Embroidered Tulle Gown, $16,900; Net-a-porter.com .
Akris, $19,900
Did you realize Akris was this pricey? Because for some reason, it never clicked. Sure, the brand was on par with other labels, but 20 thousand? Well then, now we know.
Flashing Stars Strapless Corsage Gown, $19,900; Neimanmarcus.com .
Burberry Backpack, $37,000
Backpacks have been back for a few seasons, so why not invest in one that you can really use? Emphasis on invest. This Burberry one is painted alligator skin. Can you DIY this at home for about $36,940 less? Sure, but it wouldn't be the same, now would it?
Extra-Large Painted Alligator Tote Bag, $37,000; Neimanmarcus.com .
Valentino Dress, $25,000
If there are two things we've learned, it's that embroidery and Valentino are very, very expensive. Combine the two and there goes a good chunk of your salary. That said, this dress is like the walking embodiment of spring. How better to fight off your seasonal affective disorder?
Embroidered Silk Organza Gown, $25,000; Neimanmarcus.com .
The Row Jacket, $17,300
Well, obviously this one is going to set you back a penny or three. Not only is it The Row and fur, but it's from Finland. It's Finnish fur. We're swooning. (Really, we are.) The chance to dress like the ever-chic Olsen s does not come cheap. Pay the price and be on your way.
Hilliard Fox Fur Jacket, $17,300; Saks.com .
