From Ashley Hart’s eye grabbing red, printed ensemble by fashion genius Stella Jean and Margaret Zhang’s incredibly crafted octopus-inspired mesh ensemble by Romance Was Born at the Melbourne Cup to Montana Cox’s whimsical Zimmermann get-up at the Caulfield Cup, there has been a noticeable fixation of race-goers wearing unusually printed or tailored pieces during this year’s Spring Racing Season. Our take on show stopping ensembles? The more dramatic the pattern the better, this is 2015 after all.
The Return of Colourblocking

We haven’t seen colourblocking executed this well since the trick of the trade was adopted by designers such as Diane Von Furstenberg, Fendi and Chloé many years ago. However, it seems this trend in particular never really goes out of style, as seen on race goers at this year’s cup day.
Elyse Knowles, Rachael Finch and Sophie Cachia were just some of the faces showcasing the colourblocking trend at yesterday’s Melbourne Cup Celebration thanks to By Johnny, and, we have to say, they certainly did it justice by adding minimal accessories such as pastel clutches, neutral head pieces and similar coloured shoes to tie the ensemble together. Well done, ladies.
Ladies In White

We love seeing a fresh, elegant take on race day ensembles, especially beautifully tailored white pieces paired with simple accessories or a statement heel to complete the look. One look at Mimi Elashiry in Ellery at the Melbourne Cup, the stunning Jesinta Campbell in Dion Lee at the Caulfield Cup and racing royalty Kate Waterhouse in Toni Maticevski at the Sydney Spring Carnival Launch at the Royal Randwick Racecourse and we don’t think you’ll disagree.

You simply can’t go wrong with a pastel garment. Regardless of the occasion, pastel pieces seem to work a red carpet or racecourse no matter the season, weather or trend forecast. Pictured above are our favourite pastel pieces worn to perfection with coordinating accessories, as seen on Lisa Hyde, Nadia Bartel and Lauren Phillips at The Melbourne Cup. Strategically the ladies opted for strong colours, therefore still adhering to the traditional cup day dress code. The brighter the better, or, in this case, the stronger the colour scheme the stronger the dress.
