While the idea that we lose the most heat through our heads
has been debunked , you still need to cover up now that the season has shifted. And before you know it, there will be a noticeable (or downright frigid) chill in the air, providing additional motivation to update your fall and winter hat collection. But you don’t have to slip on a boring beanie to keep your head toasty.
The Fall 2017 runways offered plenty of fresh headgear to keep us stylishly warm. From furry Muppet-like pieces to Peruvian toppers with a twist, designers pushed the boundaries of cozy. If you’re more interested in style than warmth, you still have a lot to choose from: leather berets, updated baker boy caps, structured cloches and even a designer take on the iconic Kangol. The straight-off-the-runway versions will cost you some serious change, but you can also find hats that give off the same vibes for less than half the price if you look hard enough. Scroll through the slideshow above to see all the fall and winter hat inspo you need and shop the looks for less.
Fall 2017 Hats
Marc Jacobs Fall 2017
Marc Jacobs’ Fall 2017 show was full of outsize hats. His ode to Kangols was the most eye-catching. You don’t have to pay a lot to replicate the look, especially since a real deal Kangol will only set you back $75.

Jacquemus Fall 2017
Leave it to Simon Porte Jacquemus to bring back cloche hats. There’s something a little The Handmaid's Tale about the topper, but teamed with Jacquemus’ structured pieces, it all balances out. Follow suit IRL.

Coach 1941 Fall 2017
You don’t have to go full-on shearling this winter. Fake it with faux fur, but keep things funky. Coach 1941 favored partially furry baseball caps, but we prefer ours all over.

Gucci Fall 2017
Knit hats with ear flaps, aka Peruvian hats, have been a cold weather staple for eons. While Alessandro Michele only gave the male models the opportunity to rock this topper, we prefer it over the wool hoods the ladies sported. Don’t worry about finding one with colorful ties since you can always wrap yours with ribbon or string.
