While our forums haven’t exactly taken a shine to Maria Grazia Chiuri since she took over Christian Dior, there’s one thing she seems to be excelling at: accessories. She brought back the brand’s iconic early 2000s-era saddle bag (more on that later) and at Dior’s latest haute couture show, the designer decorated her models’ earlobes with some truly eye-catching danglers. The super skinny drop earrings were accented with bold baubles at the bottom.
But she isn’t alone when it comes to her love of extended earrings. Slender shoulder dusters were actually trending on the RTW Spring 2018 and Fall 2018 runways. Perhaps eclipsed by the clunky artsy earring and hoop trends, the dainty pieces seem to have gotten lost in the sartorial shuffle. The skinnies at Roksanda Spring 2018 were really twisted. Their curves were set off by strategically placed colored stones. Monse kept things stark and sleek with its bent earrings, thereby drawing more attention to the necklines on those backward and slightly askew shirts.
Jacquemus stepped things up for Fall 2018 by weighing down the danglers with earthy, wooden shapes. Some models were treated to sets, others sported a solitary stunner. Dries Van Noten also opted for a natural approach with the skinny sections serving as stems for ruby flowers.
Although these don’t qualify as everyday pieces, a drop earring can up the ante on an evening or weekend outfit. And you don’t have to look far to find them. Top houses like Gucci, Miu Miu, Valentino and Balenciaga all supply statement drop earrings at surprisingly reasonable prices (considering how much their clothes run). Plus, fast-fashion brands including & Other Stories and Mango offer chic, lower cost alternatives.
