Serena Williams gets just as much attention for what she wears on the court as she does for how she plays. It all started with a sleek catsuit the legend wore at last year’s French Open that the French Tennis Federation found disrespectful and a violation of the tournament’s dress code. It wasn’t just a fashion statement. Serena wore it to help ward off blood clots after giving birth to her daughter. The tennis ace kept her cool and shrugged off the issue saying, “everything is fine, guys.”
At this year’s tournament, Serena opted for a rather poignant set from her new go-to: Off-White’s Virgil Abloh for Nike. The look consisted of a black and white crop top and matching skirt (don’t worry, no outfit violations here). The finishing touch was a coordinating cape that had “Mother, Champion, Queen, Goddess” written in French.
Serena told Vogue, “It has words in it in French. It talks about me being a mom and me being a queen, as all women are. A champion. It’s positive reinforcement for me, and I kind of love that.”
